Synopsis
Twenty-year-old MADELAINE (20) lives with her grandmother VERA in the norwegian town of Ålesund. She has little in common with her prostitute friend AGNIESZKA, who tells Madelaine that having sex for money is no big deal. At home, Madelaine tells her grandmother that she is going to Bergen. Vera is a bit concerned, but Madelaine is determined.
In Bergen, Madelaine rents a cheap room from shady character MAGNUS and his wife MARIA, who are both traumatized after the recent death of their son. She then contacts real estate agent LENNART, so that she can find something better. While visiting an apartment together, Madelaine tries to seduce Lennart, who gladly begins removing her clothes. Before having sex, however, she informs him that he is her long lost father. She says she knows that he killed her mother’s lover when she was a child. Lennart insists she is wrong. Angry, he leaves.
Lost and confused, Madelaine gets into a car and almost gets raped by the driver. She then visits a church and gets comfort from an OLD MAN. Meanwhile, Lennart receives a bunch of letters sent by Vera. Some of the letters are quite old, and all were written by Madelaine during her childhood. Moved, Lennart agrees to meet Madelaine at a beachside hotel. Lennart tells the story of how he killed her mother’s lover, but still insists that he is not her father. Undaunted, Madelaine believes they are related.
Madelaine returns home and writes him one final letter.
